Random: Narrative Makes All of the Distinction in these Famicom Detective Membership trailers

It is fair to say that Nintendo of America and Nintendo of Europe sometimes seem completely at the mercy of the Kyoto decisions and not always have a big say. Current trailer for the two Famicom Detective Club Games are a case and a point, with the regional teams clearly being given the same stock video and encouraged to make use of it.

In this case, it makes a fun comparison. Nintendo of America released its version last week, and the narrative is reminiscent of slightly exaggerated TV commercials for detective shows. “Terrible resentment. Serious allegations. A village that will be haunted forever”. Dramatic stuff.

Nintendo of Europe went the other way with its version today. If you go for a smooth classic English voice, the narrated lines are cut back and are far less ostentatious, with more moments when the game material just rolls uninterruptedly.

We were amused by the difference in style – the question is, which one did you prefer?
