Otherworld Legends is the spiritual successor to developer ChillyRoom for his favorite roguelike Soul Knight. After its launch in August last year, we voted it our game of the week and named it one of our best games of 2020. Yes it is really good. As Soul Knight fans know all too well, ChillyRoom doesn’t just release a game and call it a day. No, they add new content and functionality at a healthy pace over the life of a game, and Otherworld Legends is no different. About a month after it was first launched, a major update was released that, among other things, added a new playable hero and environment. What has followed since then have been frequent, minor updates that added new features here and there, but mostly tweaked and tweaked the game based on player feedback. There was also a time-limited update on Christmas in December. Now ChillyRoom is back with another major update they call the Spring Festival Update, and you can find all sorts of new extras in the trailer below.
This major update again adds a new playable character, the western gunslinger Hannah, as well as a new environment called Elfland. Another big innovation is the cooperative multiplayer mode, which is limited to local play, but is at least a start. There are also a number of new cosmetic skins for a selection of the heroes, one of which can be unlocked in-game with gems, but the others are sold as IAP. It’s not a bad way to throw extra cash into the developers who have already created one of the more generous free games. There’s also a new NPC character called Meyer with new trials for some special items, a new difficulty level, new boss skills, and a lot more. It’s a real eye catcher of an update. As mentioned before, Otherworld Heroes is completely free to play and one of the best action roguelikes out there. So be sure to give it a try if you haven’t already and check our forums for a discussion.
