In today’s Resident Evil Showcase, Capcom announced a release date for Resident Evil Village on May 7, 2021, along with a new trailer and gameplay demonstration.
The trailer shows a glimpse of who Ethan Winters will meet at the castle, including a troupe of these great vampire women the internet fell in love with last week. A particularly sharp detail: They are made of beetles! One of them pokes a sickle in the foot from the start. Friendly bunch.
Our first in-depth look at combat comes very close to Resident Evil 7’s first-person action, but with a greater scope and enemy variety. We see hordes of mangy hooded ratmen in a pitch-black dungeon and full-fledged werewolves, accompanied by a scale-sized monster wielding an even bigger hammer. We’ll look into the Beetle Women as well, but shooting them doesn’t end well for Ethan.

Resident Evil 4’s grid-based inventory returns along with a weapon manufacturing system. It is a welcome and necessary addition, given the size of the material we are about to shoot. In another very clear nod to Resident Evil 4, Village also has a recurring merchant character called The Duke. He looks like a pretty weird goofy guy, and this time he’s going to be more of an integrated character. Ethan will find the Duke in new situations with new comments all over the village.
In addition to the quick promise that Village will also include the series’ usual puzzles with statues, odd keys and bizarre mechanisms, Capcom announced an exclusive demo for PlayStation 5 owners. We’re going to get one of our people to try it out.
