Urban Diction defines “yee yee ass” as “something that looks extremely horrible”. For context here is the following example: “If it wasn’t for your haircut of yee yee ass, you would already have a job.”
The term and usage example actually come from an angry mundane cutscene from Grand Theft Auto 5 where Franklin is absolutely toasted by Lamar. The segment was popularized back in 2013 – according to Know Your Meme, the clip was first uploaded to YouTube on September 17, 2013, the day GTA5 was released – but it has recently taken on a new life as the Fans have started creating and sharing some pretty awesome variations of Franklin’s verbal beatdown.
Some use the game’s original dialogue with different voices – Kermit the Frog, for example – while others, like Yakuza’s Kazuma Kiryu, who toast Franklin on karaoke, take a more surreal approach. But a new one, posted today on PlayStation Haven’s YouTube channel, can top them all: it’s a real-life reenactment of the scene with Shawn Fonteno and Slink Johnson, the voice actors who portrayed Franklin and Lamar in GTA5.
(The video is down here and not up here because it’s exceptionally NSFW – and I say this as someone who is deeply immersed in video game culture on a professional basis. Consider yourself warned.)
The rapid-fire dialogue still lands, but what really makes the reenactment work is the attention to detail: the clothes, the background, the poses, and the lyrical resolution are spot on. There are a lot of creative attitudes to the segment that is buzzing around (this is Thomas the trainer to get into the action) but for my money you can’t beat the original in the originals.
Speaking of which, here is the current cutscene, which is from the PS4 version and uploaded in 2014:
